Commitment to Sustainable Travel, Business & Community

At Ellison Travel & Tours we know that what we do has a powerful impact on the lives and outlook of all of our clients and the parts of the world that they visit. We are dedicated to ensuring your travel needs are met from beginning to end while also giving back to the global community.

As a member of Carlson Wagonlit Travel we support their efforts in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): This model has provided a guideline to us in developing our commitment to sustainable travel, business and community.

 

Our Commitment to Sustainable Business

Ellison Travel & Tours is dedicated to supporting the fight against global warming and minimizing our overall footprint on the environment. Whether it be recycling paper, collecting plastics for recycling, commuting to work via carpooling or biking and video conferencing for the majority of our meetings, we are continually looking for new ways to "green" our work environment as part of our commitment to sustainable business. 
Outlined below is a list of the ways in which we have by incorporating "reduce, reuse & recycle" theme into each of our offices. You too can use some of these ideas in your home or office!

  1. We are smart about recycling. 
    We look at what our company consumes and find ways to recycle, reduce and reuse. We recycle paper, bottles, cans etc. and purchase recycled, environmentally friendly, and sustainable business products, supplies, and paper whenever possible. When possible we refill computer ink cartridges rather than add them to the landfill. We also pride ourselves on our commitment to remove, refurbish and properly dispose of old office equipment and supplies.

  2. We continually review our energy use.
    We have completed an energy audit to analyze how we can cut energy use by increasing efficiency. We also turn off equipment when it's not being used. This can reduce the energy used by 25 percent; turning off the computers at the end of the day can save an additional 50 percent.

  3. We have replaced our refrigerators and will replace other appliances and office equipment in the future.
    Newer models use 40% less energy than those sold as recently as five years ago.

  4. We do not Use Polystyrene Coffee Cups.
    We provide mugs or employees bring their own to work.

  5. We Buy Green Coffee
    Not the colour! - We buy coffee that was grown in a sustainable manner!

  6. We use fluorescent/low Energy lighting in our offices where possible

  7. We turn up or turn back the thermostat during unoccupied times

  8. We Use E-Mail to correspond internally and with our clients

  9. We "double side" our documents

  10. At Tradeshows we have reduced handouts by 50%

  11. We make payments by credit card to suppliers whenever possible

  12. We have developed a "Green Team"
    We have a team of employees and managers that lead, motivate, assess and make recommendations when it comes to our green efforts.

  13. We have reduced commutes 
    We encourage carpooling and we have many employees that telecommute at certain times of the year. We have also implemented teleconferencing for meetings between offices and with clients to reduce travel between offices and client sites.

  15. We send Holiday cards by email where possible
    We encourage sustainable travel through various environmental organizations and funds (see Our Commitment to Sustainable Travel"). 


Upcoming Initiatives may include adding hybrid vehicles. We will keep our site updated as we expand our commitment to sustainability!!

Global Warming is impacting the places we want to travel to -greenhouse emissions, rising sea levels and extreme weather conditions are the obvious examples. ELLISON TRAVEL & TOURS HELPS YOU TO TRAVEL "CARBON NEUTRAL":

One way to minimize your carbon footprint is to make a contribution to off-set your travel time & carbon impact. As an example, www.carbonzero.ca or www.zerofootprint.net will allow you to calculate the total amount of carbon used during your journey and make a donation to support a Canadian environmental sustainability project. When you can off-set your carbon usage this is referred to as travelling "carbon-neutral". 

You can also take matters into your own hands and plant a tree, donate to your local aquarium to assist in research of the many species that are endangered due to global warming or research your own company or initiative that will help in the battle against global warming.

Whatever you can do to "off-set" any environmental damage is a step in the right direction!
